With the trailer for video game adaptation “Warcraft” just dropping and the recent release of “Call of Duty: Black Ops III”, video game properties are very much in vogue.
Heat Vision reports that Activision Blizzard have decided to start their own movie studio. Top of the agenda for the new studio is for them to set up a cinematic universe for their behemoth first person shooter franchise “Call of Duty”.
With the company in a a very healthy position and worth an estimated $26 billion they plan to finance through equity and have not looked at distribution or co-financing deals.
The “Call of Duty” franchise has sold over 175 million copies worldwide and sales have generated over $10 billion. The new Activision Blizzard studio plans to release the first movie in the franchise in 2018 0r 2019.
With many different time periods and setting in the series, no indication was given on what the movies story lines will follow. Personally I would prefer a Modern Warfare inspired film, in favour of WWII or the Advanced Warfare future setting. How would you like to see the franchise tackled? let us know in the comments below.
