Over the last few years Disney has been hard at work re-imagining its classic animated tales into live action adaptations, with the likes of “Maleficent”and Cinderella.
“101 Dalmatians” and its iconic character Cruella de Vil is the latest title for the live-action treatment with “Cruella”. It now seems that Disney has set its sights on its lead, with Emma Stone in early negotiations to star as the villainess.
Aline Brosh McKenna worked on an early version of the script, with Kelly Marcel now taking over writing on the adaptation which is intended to be an origin story of the character. No director is currently attached while Andrew Gunn is producing.
Glenn Close famously played a live-action version of the character in two films in the 1990s, with Victoria Smurfit most recently portraying the character ABC’s “Once Upon a Time”.
