Dimension Films have set “The Six Billion Dollar Man” for release on December 22nd, 2017. The film will star Mark Wahlberg with “Wild Tales” helmer Damián Szifron directing, he also wrote the screenplay.

The film will be based on classic television series “The Six Million Dollar Man” and the novel “Cyborg” by Martin Caidin. The story follows Steve Austin, a military officer who after a horrific accident leaves him near death becomes part of a top secret government program. Cutting edge technology helps bring Steve back to life with the added benefit of extraordinary abilities, making him the world’s first bionic man.

Stephen Levinson and Bob Weinstein will produce the film. Wahlberg said of the project:

“I’m thrilled to assemble The Six Billion Dollar” for the big screen with the likes of Bob Weinstein and Damián Szifron, We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century.”

Szifron added:

“Writing the screenplay was such a fantastic ride and embarking on this journey with Mark, Bob and Stephen to take this story to a whole new level is simply spectacular. Growing up, these kind of films left an indelible mark on me and now it feels so good to be making one.”

“The Six Billion Dollar Man” will go into production in September 2016.
