The recent “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” trailer was met with a lot of criticism, due to the preview seemingly spelling out the entire story of the film.

The trailer seems to highlight all the major story  beats, with Batman and Superman meeting, Lex Luthor manipulating the situation and Bruce Wayne’s determination to destroy Superman due to the destruction of metropolis in man of Steel. Subsequently they then have numerous battles, with Lex creating Doomsday.  We then see them resolve their differences and along with Wonder Woman fight Doomsday, end credits…Or so we thought.

There is more to the narrative then it would seem, production designer Patrick Tatopoulos told Premiere that fans can expect plenty of surprises, and there is much more to the Doomsday story than we might think, and he even hinted at a Bizarro twist:

“Doomsday isn’t just the final act… We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of ‘The Death of Superman’ story, but this is handled in such a new way.

When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn’t just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world.

Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod… then how would that evolve into Doomsday.”

Tatopoulos added that there is a “larger threat” in the film, with fans likely to be surprised by the:

“timeframe of how things fall into place… Those feeling they may know too much this early, are going to be in for a true surprise.”

This comment certainly seems to hint that those Darkseid rumors may hold some truth. We’ll get to find out what other threats the caped crusader and the man of steel will face on march 25th next year. Let us know what you think of Tatopoulos quotes in the comments below.
