After “District 9” and “Elysium” helmer Neill Blomkamp pulled out of work on the proposed “Aliens” sequel, many wondered what his next project would be.

20th Century Fox are in talks with Blomkamp to write and direct an adaptation of Thomas Sweterlitsch’s upcoming sci-fi novel “The Gone World”.

Chernin Entertainment are producing the film which will be a science fiction time travel procedural. Specifics on the story are being kept under wraps .  Author, Sweterlitsch’s previous novel “Tomorrow and Tomorrow” is also being developed as a film at TriStar.

It certainly sounds a good fit for Blompkamp and after less than critical acclaim on his original films “Elysium” and “Chappie” an adaptation of existing sci-fi work might be a good idea.
