Noomi Rapace is in negotiations to play Amy Winehouse in an upcoming biopic on the late singer. Kirsten Sheridan (“August Rush”) directing is directing the project with Lotus Entertainment producing.

Sheridan also wrote the screenplay,  she was previously nominated for an Academy award for 2002’s “In America” with her sister Naomi Sheridan and father Jim Sheridan.

Singer songwriter Winehouse gained worldwide fame for her second and final studio album “Back to Black”  in 2006. She died 5 years later of alcohol poisoning.

Director and writer Kirsten Sheridan said of Winehouse:

“Amy’s music is felt so deeply by the audience because it was deeply personal. Her vulnerability was her strength. She was called many things — a diva, a lost soul preyed upon by tabloids, a tortured genius; our aim is an innovative, emotional and life-affirming approach as we go through the looking glass into her life and art.”
