There has several names in the frame to direct “Black Panther” at Marvel Studios, with “Selma” director Ava DuVernay previously heavily linked and more recently rumors of “Creed” and “Fruitvale Station” helmer Ryan Coogler, that news is now official.

After the massive success of “Creed” Coogler has been linked for several weeks, but the studio made that link official when Marvel president Kevin Feige released the following statement:

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family, The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

Chadwick Boseman is set to play the title character AKA T’Challa in the film which is set for release on February 16th 2018 release.
