After Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, speculation as been rife on when we will see a new Indiana Jones movie and if Harrison Ford will return to wear the ionic fedora, or if the role will be recast James Bond style with a younger actor.
Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper have been rumored to be up for the role, but recently Frank Marshall dismissed this idea and insisted Ford would be back for the fifth instalment.
It’s no secret Harrison Ford wants to return to the role and now it seems series director Steven Spielberg has had his say. The director of all four of the previous “Indiana Jones” films spoke with Screen Daily this week to categorically say that Ford will be the only one to play the character:
“I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy. I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones, and that’s Harrison Ford.”
With these comments we can certainly expect another Harrison Ford-led fifth “Indiana Jones”, there’s still no dates on when the film will go into production though. Do you agree that the role should never be recast? Let us know in the comments below.
