Another Vin Diesel project has secured a director this time to tackle the  third movie in the “xXx” franchise, D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia”) . This follows on from the news that F. Gary Gray will direct the eight instalment of the Fast and Furious series.

Diesel revealed the news to io9, with filming previously reported to start this December in the Philippines, now the question is which one Diesel’s projects will shoot first.  Diesel himself isn’t sure:

“I’m excited as hell about xXx. D.J. Caruso is directing it, which is exciting. The big question now is which will race to production first now that F. Gary Gray is on [Furious 8]?”

“Furious 8” will have to shoot fairly quickly to meet its April1 4th 2017 release date, so I would suspect this will shoot before the “xXx” sequel. Diesel went on to talk about the differences between his Xander Cage character from “xXx” and his character in the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

“xXx is one of those films you do when you need to have a little fun. When the weight and pressures of all the other things have gone so far that you need to have a character that you can just have fun and more comment on life and comment on the outcome than being in it like Dom Torretto. Dom is very much the center of the storm, Xander is more the guide to something else and you’re just with him.”

The first “xXx” movie came out in 2002 with Diesel playing an extreme sports athlete turned spy. The less successful sequel “xXx: State of Union” came out in 2005 with Ice Cube playing the lead albeit different character. Diesel can next be seen in “The Last Witch Hunter” which opens on October 23rd.
