Val Kilmer will be back as ‘Iceman’ in the sequel to the Tony Scott directed action thriller “Top Gun”. He revealed the news in unorthodox fashion, on his own Facebook page.

The project has been in pre-production for some time and was in serious doubt Tony Scott tragically died in August 2012. The project is now moving forward however, with producer  Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount Pictures striking a deal. Justin Marks has also been hired to write the screenplay.

In a world where wars can be fought by drones, the story is set to deal with jet pilots struggling to remain relevant. Cruise is also expected to return to his iconic role of Maverick. Val Kilmer took to Facebook last night to announce that he’s been offered the chance to reprise his role as Iceman in the followup, and he quickly accepted:
